Smencils
Since its creation, Smencils has become the premier scented pencil and scented pen supplier to the fundraising industry. Smencil brand products are one of the best fundraising ideas we've seen for getting kids excited about fundraising, while using recycled products and thinking green.
The Creation of Smencils
Each Smencil starts as old recycled newspaper tightly rolled around #2 graphite. After the desired thickness is acquired, they are then hardened; this allows them to be sharpened just like wood pencils. Next, the pencils and pens are soaked in gourmet liquid scents and then dried. Once the Smencil is fully dried, erasers and stickers are applied. To help maintain the scent for at least two years, each Smencil is placed in its own freshness tube.
Smencils and the Environment
An important part of doing business today revolves around being responsible for the environment. Smencils achieves this by using recycled newspaper for their scented pens and pencils, corn-based biodegradable plastic for the freshness tubes, and biodegradable erasers. To help understand what this does for our environment, consider this: one average sized cedar tree will make about 172,000 wood pencils, this same amount of Smencils can be made from 430 newspapers.
